TL;DR: Accurate, JUST LIKE SH, more than worth the price, combines blood, pain, color, sting, and leaves a mark even without the staining ink. Has levels so you can actually progress in your journey. It also smells really good. I never do aromatherapy, but combining that with all the elements of SH makes it work so well. DBT didn't work for me, but this did. I HIGHLY recommend it, but read my review if you're hesitant. Shipping cost is worth it for your mental health. You can seriously tell that A LOT of work and thought was put into this design. Thank you so much for pursuing your idea; I'm sure it has helped many people. You can tell this was made by someone who struggles with the same thing. Seriously, get it. If you think it will help and not make you worse. It kept me from relapsing, and now I have made it to 300 days clean. You can do it.
I would've relapsed if it wasn't for this because of how much I missed the feeling, how much I was scared to lose that feeling, how desperately I wanted to see the blood and feel the relief. This provided me with a way to avoid causing permanent damage or relapse.
Details:
This thing is great - I've had it for two months now and I've only used it two, maybe three times. You have to make sure not to use it all the time, unless that's where you are in your self-harm journey. When I got this, I had already been clean for a couple of months, but I knew I would relapse eventually, so I bought this preemptively. I live in the States, so the shipping was a little pricey, but it was 100% worth it. It ACTUALLY WORKS. Definitely look at the 'levels', I got the regular pen with the little plastic arrow for a scratching feel, and regular blood ink with level 2 smell, evergreen. I will say that the evergreen scent isn't very stingy. When I first got the pen, I tried it out just to see how it was, and it stung a lot more than it does now. Maybe I am not shaking it enough? Anyway, either way it's worth it, and it smells SO GOOD. It combines all the different aspects that come with SH: pain, blood, texture, color, and sting. If you are still deep in SH and need something that will give you a real sting, then you should get Level 3 or 4 scent. I also considered getting the staining blood, but the regular ink works just as well for me; it looks EXACTLY like blood if you do it correctly (might take a second to figure it out). The regular ink doesn't just come off; you do have to wash it with some water to get the stain off, so that's why this works for me, and I don't need the extra staining. Some people do, though, so that's cool. Disclaimer, though; DO NOT use this more often than you are cutting yourself, IF you don't NEED to, it can get you out of the mindset, but it can also throw you back in. For me, the first time I used it, to try it, I was worried I would use it too much. But I was able to resist, and it's the PERFECT tool. Maybe you can have someone hold onto it for you so you don't overuse it, if that works for you. You can also get refills, or pens without the scratching sensation, sting, no sting, slight sting, slight color, full stain, clear color, other colors, different scents, it's made so well. I would have ABSOLUTELY relapsed those times if I didn't have this, but I will say if you're like me and were already clean for a while, make sure not to overuse it and get yourself back in that loop, it's there for people already in the loop, or for people to prevent falling back into that loop. Give yourself grace, do what you need to recover, harm reduction is always good, but don't completely disregard the risks. The first time I got stitches was when I decided it was time to quit. YOU DO NOT WANT STITCHES. IT IS SERIOUSLY NOT FUN, NOT WORTH IT. I THREW UP, AND I NEVER THROW UP! Get this instead, save yourself the risk, the trauma, the complications.
PS. Please get stitches if you do cut yourself too deeply or widely. If I hadn't gotten those stitches, I would have seriously regretted it. It's not worth the stitches to keep cutting, but the stitches are WORTH IT if you already cut, do not avoid stitches if you already cut yourself. Please go get them.
